Sarah Ullman

I’m an Emmy-nominated documentary film & TV producer / director with a passion for politics, food, and adventure. Most recently, I produced seasons 6, 7, and 8 of Showtime's political doc series, The Circus.

Over the past decade, I have interviewed and documented hundreds of people: on an aquaponics farm in Texas and a catamaran in the Pacific, in the shadow of the red rocks of Sedona, in the White House, a church in Compton, and everywhere in between. I know how to shake a candidate out of their stump speech, how to build trust quickly, and how to create dynamic television where others might see talking heads.

I’ve filmed women running for Parliament in Afghanistan (before the withdrawal), the Parkland gun violence survivors, many YouTube creators, Kamala Harris, Zooey Deschanel, and Amy Poehler. My work has been featured in The New York Times, Vogue, Fast Company, and People Magazine.

I'm open to commercial work, too: I've made Puppy Chow commercials for Purina, campaign ads for Joe Biden, and listicles narrated by an animated spider for DisneyXD.

I understand how to take a concept through development, production, and across the finish line in post. I have navigated complex workflows and beastly travel with a steady hand and a calm demeanor.

I’m an experienced manager of people, from a crew of two to an organization of 62 employees across 4 time zones exporting thousands of videos. I prize both excellence and respect on set — life’s too short to work with jerks.

When I’m not making film & TV, I occasionally curate exhibitions at Museum of the Moving Image in NYC. My most recent exhibition, Infinite Duets: Co-Creating on TikTok, explored the evolution of creative ideas on the platform.

And when I'm not doing any of the above, you can reliably find me in the kitchen, dreaming up my next meal.
